From Our Founder

Chaplain Joe HunterFROM OUR FOUNDER:

How awesome is our God!

First, thank you for taking the time to look at our web site. And as you look, I pray you are aware of the fact that America moves by truck, and without trucks, America stops!

I am told that there are over 5 million over-the-road truck Drivers, and nearly 8 million C.D.L. drivers total! We, along with other trucking ministries, are attempting to reach those who spend most of their time living on the road, bringing us everything we have.

There is a saying, “The only thing you can have that a truck Driver hasn’t handled is a baby.” But, everything that the baby needs is handled by one or more truck Drivers.

I was an over-the-road truck Driver for approximately 20 years. I learned to drive a truck shortly before going into the U.S. Army. During my two years in the Military, I drove truck in Viet Nam for one year then back to Ft. Bragg, N.C. driving there my last 6 months in the Army. After the Army I became a commercial truck driver. During the next 20 years I was in many cities across the U.S. on Sunday morning wanting to worship, but no way to get to a church. When I reduced my trucking to regional running in 1979, God began to deal with me about ministering to the drivers who were stuck in Atlanta for the weekend. In March 1981, I went to the (then) Truck Stops of America in Conley (Atlanta), GA on I-285 and Moreland Avenue and was given permission to conduct a Bible study and see what would happen. Thirty-three years later, to the glory of God, and by His grace, we are still trying, and are now in over 82 truck stops in 29 states.

If you feel led, you may want to become a financial supporter of this tremendous mission opportunity. You can donate online, by phone, or by mail. Or, you may want to become a part of the team of over 500 workers across the country that ministers to the Drivers each week. Feel free to call the office for more information or contact any of our Executive Board members.

Again thanks for taking the time to visit our web site. If I can be of further assistance or answer any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me personally.

Our Mission Statement

I. Who We Are

A. The Corporate Identity

Truckstop Ministries, Inc. is 501(c)-3 non-profit Georgia based corporation founded in March, 1981. TMI is a Bible-based ministry founded by Joe and Jan Hunter and directed by an Executive Board of "born-again" Christians, led by the Holy Spirit, and dedicated to fulfilling the God-given vision. With its National Headquarters in Jackson, Georgia the ministry is supported by a paid staff and a multitude of volunteers across the country.

B. Our Statement of Faith

Truckstop Ministries believes in and teaches the following:

The Bible is the absolute infallible Word of God and it is without error. (2 Samuel 22:31, 2 Timothy 3:16)

Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary. (Matthew 1:23)

Jesus died on the cross and in three days he arose from the dead (grave) and is alive today, sitting at the right hand of the Father. (Matthew 27:32-50, Luke 24:46-47)

Jesus’ shed blood on the cross is the only remission for man’s sins.
(Hebrews 9:22, 1 John 1:7, Revelation 1:5)

Salvation is accessible only through repentance: confessing our sinful nature to God, turning from our sins, and accepting Jesus as our personal Savior. (Romans 10:9-10, Romans 10:13, 1 John 1:9)

Sexual sins – Not “alternative lifestyles;” rather, intolerable sins in God’s sight.

            1.HomosexualityRomans 1:18-32;

            2. Adultery, Fornication, etc. – Galatians 5:19-21

The Trinity — God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19)

The Rapture — When Jesus appears in the clouds and all born-again Christians go to meet Him in the air. (1 Thessalonians 4:16)

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead who manifests the power of God in, and for, man today. (Acts 1:8, Luke 10:19)

Water baptism by immersion: an outward profession of our belief in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and not, in itself, necessary for salvation. (Matthew 3:16, 1 Peter 3:21)

Hell is a literal place of eternal torment for all who reject God and die in their sin. (Isaiah 66:24, Luke 16:19-21)

The anointing of oil and praying for the sick. (James 5:14)

"And the Lord said unto the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled'." Luke 14:23

Ministry Profile

We treat our employees with Christian love and respect. We would like to be considered a spiritual refuge for Truckers and others in all of our locations.

While we do have a number of supporters -- corporate & otherwise -- who are in the trucking industry, we receive a lot of our financial support from Truckers. About 67% of our donations are from Drivers, with the rest coming from trucking companies, churches, and individuals. More importantly, we have supporters who share Truckstop Ministries' vision to reach all Truck Drivers.

Through a long-term commitment to this mission, we are known as a ministry that provides guidance,
services and facilities to Truckers seeking the word of God.
